- Time to assemble a team. Let me go to PagerDuty and fight its UI to figure out who’s available. I’ll need a scribe, a CS lead, and a database SME.
- Ok, I’ll manually page each response team member and invite them to this new Slack channel I just created. I’ll paste screenshots of what I found on Datadog and the things I’ve discovered while they get online.
- Time to spend like 15 minutes explaining to each person who shows up what’s going on and what I want them to contribute. I need to remember to check in on each person to see how they’re doing while also helping determine the root cause and a mitigation strategy.
- Oh no, some VP is awake and found our channel (shouldn’t she be sleeping??) and now I have to stop everything to explain what’s going on and even jump on a debrief call. She was not happy I didn’t let leadership know there was a SEV2 going on. Sorry, but hey, I’m busy!
- My wake-up alarm is an hour away from going off, but the incident is resolved now. I’ll try to catch some sleep. I’ll deal with our messy Slack channel and pick up the shreds of information scattered around to build a timeline and a retrospective tomorrow—or, I mean, later today.
